3. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Ensure that individual members are not subjected to excessive forces or risks of corrosion. Provide suitable protection at sling pick up points to prevent deformation, buckling and damage to paint.

With storage of galvanised members such as cold rolled 'Z' sections, allow maximum air circulation round individual members. Keep duration of storage to a minimum to prevent 'white rust' formation in badly ventilated conditions. Rolled purlins are usually delivered to site in tightly bundled and banded packs.

Opening these out for storage with air circulation may take too much

space so consult suppliers on the bundled storage life before the onset of

'white rust' and take the necessary precautions.
